Ness of Duncansby

Neighbouring the MeyGen site to the east is the Ness of Duncansby project. The Crown Estate awarded an agreement for lease for the project to Scottish Power Renewables in the original Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters leasing round. Atlantis acquired the project in 2016.

The project has the potential to support the installation of up to 100MW of tidal energy capacity 2021/2022.

The Duncansby site, which lies immediately to the east of the MeyGen site will benefit from the extensive data gathering already completed for that array, and from the continuing monitoring of the area following the installation of the MeyGen turbines. It is expected that the Duncansby consenting process would be initiated in parallel with that for MeyGen Phase 2 to maximise synergies between the projects.
